C & O CANAL TOWPATH

The 184.5 mile long Chesapeake & Ohio Canal is located along the north bank of the Potomac River, starting in Washington, DC and ending in Cumberland, MD.

The canal's towpath is a favorite of hikers, joggers, and bicyclists.

 

SUGARLOAF MOUNTAIN HIKING

Sugarloaf Mountain is a small (1,282 foot; 391 m) mountain and park about 10 miles (16 km) south of Frederick, Maryland, USA. The closest village is Barnesville, located nearly at the foot of the mountain. The peak of this relatively low mountain is approximately 800 feet (244 m) higher than the surrounding farmland. It is visible from many parts of northern Montgomery County and southern Frederick County, notably from I-270 north of the town of Germantown.

WHITE'S FERRY

White's Ferry is the only cable ferry service that carries cars, bicycles, and pedestrians across the Potomac River.

POPLAR SPRING ANIMAL SANCTUARY

The restored colonial-era farmhouse situated on the property houses the operations of the sanctuary. Overlooking the Potomac River, and surrounded by ponds, streams, and open fields of preserved natural habitat, the sanctuary provides an idyllic setting for wildlife and farm animals
